One of our favourite ancient cities in Turkey. Some incredible structures still stand, but the site is particularly special because of the gorgeous mountaintop location. Many of the ruins are very close together and signage was very easy to follow. It was grea tto see a 2000 year old fountain still functioning.

This is one of Turkey’s hidden gems. Smallish site but very well preserved and well signed in both Turkish and a English. Would highly recommend a visit. You can imagine Alexander the Great coming over the mountain to conquer on his way to Persian. We travelled in September and only 1 other couple there. Very cheap entry fee. There is a very good hotel only 7 minutes from the site which is very well run and recommend a couple of nights stay.

We visited this spectacular site a few years ago, when it was still unknown, at least to foreign travellers who were not archaeologists. It was a great surprise and love at first sight! That same year we came back to see it again with some friends. Fantastic place, spectacular ruins, the Upper Agora with its working fountain is really unique and the museum of Burdur, where the best originals are kept, is really a pearl not to be missed! I know that in recent years the excavations have continued, so it must definitely be worth a visit even more. Interesting and complete exhibition about Sagalassos at the Yapi Kredi Museum in Istanbul which was on in Jan. 2020.
